Oil paint on vintage, unplayable mandolins.
Although I am not musical, mandolins have long been a love of mine. And to my surprise, I can recall with perfect clarity why.
In Walt Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty”, there is a particular scene when the two kings are toasting to the upcoming marriage of their children. As a minor, comic character, there is a wine-crazed mandolin player accompanying them. He gets drunk in between notes, filling his mandolin with wine, and eventually passing out under the table, with the instrument stuck on his head. This small scene has endeared itself to my childhood memories over the years.
